Also, the balance in such PPIs cannot exceed Rs 20,000 at any point of time and the merchants can transfer their funds from such PPIs to their own linked bank accounts up to Rs 50,000 per month, without any limit per transaction.

India successfully test-fires – Agni IV Missile
Among Important National Current Affairs, India has successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable strategic ballistic missile named as ‘Agni-IV’ with a strike range of 4000 km as part of a user trial from a test range off Odisha coast.
However, supported by a mobile launcher the surface-to-surface missile was flight tested from launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island, which is formerly known as Wheeler Island, at about 11.55 hours, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). According to the sources, this was the 6th trial of the indigenously developed Agni-IV missile which met the mission objectives.
Also, the last trial conducted by the specially formed strategic force command (SFC) of Indian Army on 9th November, 2015 was also successful.

MIT researchers develop super strong, lightweight – 3D Graphene

Among Important International Current Affairs, China is setting up the world’s highest altitude gravitational wave observatory in a Tibet prefecture close to Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India. However, the telescope will detect and gather precise data on primordial gravitational waves in the Northern Hemisphere. The construction work of the first telescope code-named Ngari No.1 as part of first phase has started. It is expected to be operational by 2021.

Prefecture at China’s border with India. In the second phase series of telescopes, code-named Ngari No. 2 will be set up about 6,000 meters above sea level.
The high altitude of Ngari observatory provides clear sky to detect tiny twists in cosmic light and has minimal human activity. This observatory will be among the world’s top primordial gravitational wave observation bases, alongside the South Pole Telescope and the facility in Chile’s Atacama Desert.

SC wants what in EVMs for fair elections – VVPAT

In the year 2013, SC had directed the EC to introduce VVPAT in a phased manner for 2014 general elections. SC had also observed that VVPAT will ensure free and fair polls and help in sorting out disputes.

New Ginger species with medicinal properties discovered in – Andamans

Ferrying human remains from Delhi to North-east by air is a costly affair.”

Expert Group on SECC submits report to – Rural Development Ministry

Jagdalpur-Bhubaneshwar Hirakhand Express derails near Rayagada in – Andhra Pradesh

Record 103 satellites on a single rocket will be launched by – ISRO

Power Grid Corporation of India inked MoU with – Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority
On 25th January 2017, Central Power Sector PSU Power Grid Corporation of India inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA). Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Distribution Co (UAE) Saeed Al Suwaidi and Executive Director- International Business of POWERGRID Mr Anil Mehra in the presence of IS Jha, CMD of POWERGRID.
As per MoU both companies will work together in the fields of capability development and training in the field of Operation & Maintenance (O&M), Asset Management, Project Management, Power Transmission & Distribution, etc.
ADWEA will also be assisted by POWERGRID to set up an advanced World Class Capability Development institute in UAE.
Name of Russian ambassador to India who passed away – Alexander Kadakin
On 26th January 2017, Russian ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin was passed away after a brief illness. He was 67 years old and he held this position from 2009.
He played a major role in ties of India and Russia. He was fond of Indian Culture and Language. He also authored and translated many books from English and Hindi.
Cryogenic Engine for Upper Stage of GSLV Mk III was successfully tested by – ISRO
On 25th January 2017, The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully tested indigenously developed Cryogenic Upper Stage for GSLV Mk III rocket. It is scheduled to launch GSAT-19 during first quarter of 2017.

On 24th January 2017, Annual Theatre Readiness Operational Exercise (TROPEX) of Indian Army began at Western Seaboard. This is scheduled to held till fourth week of February 2017. In this excercise Ships and aircraft of both the Western and Eastern Naval Commands are participating and this excercise is aimed at testing the combat readiness of the combined fleets of the Indian Navy and the assets of the Indian Air Force, Indian Army and the Indian Coast Guard.
